Mozilla Thunderbird: How To Setup A Spam Filter

You have probably already received dodgy emails or subscribed to some newsletters that are now filling your inbox. Mozilla Thunderbird has a spam filter that filters out such emails so that important emails do not get lost in this chaos, and you get a little better overview again. Here we explain exactly how to set it up and what else you need to know.

Activate spam filter

The spam filter is set up by default. However, you must first make a few settings so that you can use the filter properly.

• Step 1: Open Thunderbird and click the three-line menu in the upper right corner. Select the ” Settings ” entry from the list.
• 2nd step: Now switch to the ” Security ” tab and then to ” Junk “. There you must check the box next to ” Activate junk protocol for self-learning filter “. You can also activate the other options if you wish. Then click OK.

Train spam filter

The spam filter can now be trained. So you need to mark unwanted email as junk and incorrectly classified email as “not junk”. It would help if you did this regularly at the beginning so that the filter can collect enough data from filtering your messages appropriately.

• Step 1: Select junk mail and click on the ” Junk ” button or the flame in the preview. You can also select multiple emails and mark them as junk.
• 2nd step: Also, check the junk folder regularly to see if “good” mail has been accidentally classified as junk. To do this, select one or more messages and click on ” No Junk “.
